Chinese New Year is one of the longest and most celebrated holidays in the world. Being the whiskey girl I am, I’ve blended together a cocktail to commemorate the Year of the Monkey this year. The Luck Be a Monkey is a libation made up of Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon, one of my favorite whiskeys, tangerines and oranges– auspicious Chinese New Year symbols– and an allspice simple syrup shaken and poured over ice.

Luck Be a Monkey

1 1/2 oz. Michter’s Bourbon
1 1/2 oz. fresh citrus juice (I used tangerines, mandarin and blood oranges)
1/2 oz. allspice simple syrup*

Glassware: Rocks glass

Garnish: Orange slice

How to mix this drink:
Combine bourbon, citrus juice and simple syrup over ice and shake well. Pour into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with an orange slice.

* Allspice Simple Syrup
1 cup water
1/2 cup of organic raw sugar
1 teaspoon of ground allspice

In a small saucepan combine sugar, allspice and water. Bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool.
