It’s officially swimming season! As a reformed swimmer (yes your girl use to be on a swim team – or two), I’m never hesitant to jump in the water. I’m typically the first one in splashing around like a little mermaid.

If you follow me on snapchat you probably already know that I’ve taken back up this low impact work out in efforts to get that lean swimmer body – toned legs, arms and all. With this newly formed commitment of swimming once a week, I have to make sure that I take care of me hair because chlorine is very drying. Combined with my affinity for coloring my hair, I find it all the more important to protect my hair before and after hitting the pool.

Some helpful steps on protecting your hair from the pool/ocean…

  1. If possible pre-soak your hair with water before entering the pool or ocean
  2. Coat your hair with some kind of oil (ie. Coconut oil, Grape seed Oil, etc)
  3. Most of you won’t be swimming laps so no need for a swimming cap but you do still need to protect your hair so I’d advise braiding, twisting or putting it in a bun.
  4. Wash your hair ASAP after swimming and if not right after atleast rinse it with fresh water.
  5. Moisturize and style
  6. Repeat and enjoy 🙂
