Since I’ve begun my natural hair journey I’ve always used “As I Am” leave-in. I’ve said it over and over again like a broken record that it has the best slip for me and leaves my hair really moisturized. For every new natural that speaks to me about their transition, it is really the first product that I tell them to run out and buy – although a bit pricey.

I was recently gifted the Madam CJ Walker Jamaican Black Castor & Murumuru Oils Ultra-Moisturizing Detangler and thought to give it a try. My first impression was that the consistency was great and the smell even better!   It has a thick/custardy texture that I just knew would just compliment my curls and help with the detangling process. As I sectioned my hair I noticed that it really worked well with my big toothcomb and Denman brush to get me through the dreaded Sunday washday with ease – I really felt like I was cheating on ol’ faithful.

So far so good and it’s a new hair care collection that already has my heart. It kept my hair moisturized for days on end. My only concern is that while writing this post and researching retailers where you can purchase your own I noticed that it’s even more expensive than my beloved “As I Am”. Retailing at for $26.00 I’m unsure how often I’d replenish it in my closet at the price point. Maybe as it continues to roll out the price will change? Fingers crossed!

Launched earlier this year, The Madam CJ Walker line consists of four collections that address the cleansing, treatment and styling needs of all hair textures. These include three styling collections formulated with six multi-tasking oils that help nourish, condition, detangle and seal in moisture – Brassica Seed & Shea Oils Collection (Smoothing/Style-Extending), Coconut & Moringa Oils Collection (Frizz Fighting/Humidity-Blocking) and Jamaican Black Castor & Murumuru Oils Collection (Curl-Defining/Moisture-Sealing) – and one treatment collection – Dream Come True Collection (Scalp & Strand Nourishing).

I do have a few of the other products and based on this experience I’m excited to try them. I’ll report back soon but in the mean time, you have my reco to give it a try!
