IT’S ALL ABOUT THE DEETS

January 12, 2011 in SUIT UP, WHAT 2 WEAR

If there’s anything that I’ve learned while working in the fashion industry it’s that details matter.  I’ve talked about how ones appearance often speaks volumes about you before you may have a chance to say anything so why not address some of the details that will set you apart?

Ladies –

If your shape doesn’t match up with the standard in-store sizes (I am a victim of this) get that item altered to your body type.  Get the waist of your jeans taken in or get your pant legs shortened.  A belt can only do so much before it warps the waist of your pants and no one likes to see jeans or pants with holes in them from being dragged on the street.  These alterations can get pricey but if you slowly implement them into your wardrobe I promise you’ll look more refined.

We are all guilty of this…chipped nail polish!  Unless it’s clear polish, there’s no need for it to linger on your fingers and toes for a month.  My cosmetic case that I tote around everyday has at least one nail polish remover pad.  They’re sold at any chain drug store.  You have no excuse and neither do I…  ESPECIALLY if someone’s put a ring on it… get.it.together!

If you find yourself wearing all black during the winter throw in a bit of color.  Solid colored tights or scarfs can do the trick really easily for little to no money.

Gentlemen –

Why are some of your wallets falling apart?  Why is the leather glue wearing off?  You can’t be serious!  Time for a new wallet and no you don’t have to wait for one of the women in your life to buy you one.  Marshalls has a great selection.

Get your jeans HEMMED! That straggly jean leg is NOT cute.

Purchase a statement watch.  The watch you wear everyday doesn’t always cut it.  Try a watch that packs a punch.  Blue and red always command attention.  Cool brands such as Kenneth Cole, Diesel, Techno Marine and G-Shock have produced reasonably priced watches that can be found at Macy’s or any other large department store.  The summer is right about the corner…get on it.

Suit Up* A new year….menswear.

December 8, 2010 in SUIT UP

Going into the new year my wish to all our male viewers is that you never are a victim of these male fashion crimes.  If you have been a victim in the past make note and adapt in the new year! Start turning heads in a good way.

* Your belt and shoes should always match.

* Do not wear a belt when wearing suspenders – it defeats the purpose.

* White shoes should only be worn during the summer… primarily at a summer wedding or somewhere tropical…maybe a BBQ.

* Skinny ties should only be worn if they match your height and weight proportion.

* Ties should always stop at belt level. Never above and surely never below.

* Short sleeve dress shirts make me feel some kind of way BUT if worn make sure… Wait never wear them. I was going to make something up but I wouldn’t believe in it. (maybe, just maybe you can get away with a plaid one but definitely never wear a tie with it)

* Do not wear thick hard bottom shoes with euro styled pant or jeans. You need to go with a more pointed toe shoe.

* Socks always have to match. No white socks with dress shoes EVER! If you wear sneakers with a suit, dress socks are still a must.

* There’s never a time you should button the bottom of your suit or blazer. If you have three buttons, button two. If you have two buttons, button the top one. NOTE – in 2010 you should not have a four button suit or blazer. This also applies to cardigans.

* Make sure to buy pants that fit.  Especially khaki’s and dress slacks.  The waist shouldn’t be too big nor should it cut up your body up.

* ALWAYS cut open your suit vents!

* ALWAYS cut off the tags off your dress coats. The tag on the cuff isn’t there for style.

NOTE: These are all my opinion but they sure as hell make sense.

SUIT UP* WINTER BRIGHTS

November 30, 2010 in SUIT UP

Guys the winter doesn’t always spell grey and black it also a great time to throw in your favorite colors.  A classic white shirt can always be spruced up with a shot of color in a tie a pocket square.  Deep purples or a contrasting striped tie worn with a plaid shirt can do the trick in showing effortless style.

JUST DANDY* “IT’S A MAN’S WORLD”

November 22, 2010 in SUIT UP

Dan•dy noun

1.  a man who gives attention to personal appearance

Show me a man who can dress and takes his time to put himself together and I’ll show you a man who’s focused. I’m not talking about a man who takes longer in the bathroom than his woman but a man who knows that each occasion requires some effort and attention to detail.  Men that take a moment to coordinate their look are always sharp and are undeniably suave.

No longer are the days where baggy pants, excessive “bling” and do-rags reign supreme.  Today is the day of the effortless man who knows the importance of looking put together.  Effortlessly styled men such are Andre 3000, Patrick Dempsey, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, “No Country for Old Men” Javier Bardem, new-comer and GQ’s current cover model Drake, CSI’s Adam Rodriguez (MP’s sex pot) my current fav Channing Tatum (yes lawd) give off this aura of smooth. I know that if I bumped into any of these men I would instantly hear James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s World” playing in the background like sweet elevator music.

Effortlessly styled men pair suits with sneakers and bow ties with hoodies and don’t button up their dress shirts all the way. Boys and men need to take note that the way you put yourself together speaks volumes to not only women but the world.  It’s often your style that sometimes speaks before you get a chance to.
