HOOKED UP* FALL CLEANING, THE SANDY EDITION!

I’m so happy to see you guys still checking in during Hurricane Sandy! After hours and hours of TV and eating everything in site, I’ve become restless. Some of you have asked what some of the tell tale rules are for cleaning out your closet. So I figured, what better time to hook you up than to do a little fall cleaning and clean out my closet/donate all summer gear that isn’t up to par my self. Everyone needs to do it and it’s a total “come to Jesus” moment. Be real with your self. Ask these questions…

Does it still fit the right way?

Have you had it and never worn it?

Does it have a hole or stain?

Are the heels worn down?

Once again, be real with yourself! If it has any of those issues, it’s time to let it go. Having the right fit is important. The right fit not only helps you feel better when out and about but you’re no longer fighting and tugging all day with something that’s too tight or too big. All of those self-conscious thoughts go right out the window. If your garments have any issues that can’t be fixed by tailor, cleaners and/or shoe repair, I’d suggest creating a donation pile and adding to it. Most common violations are…

Belt loops tears
Split belts (most common with non-leather belts)
Holes on the bottom of your jeans from dragging them on the floor
Disappearing heel taps
Broken bag straps
Yellowing arm pits

Are you a violator? It’s time to let it go! Do you realize that items that you’re able to get fixed also help with your long-term budget. Once fixed, shoes are once again like new and stained garments can be worn again with out shame. There goes the need to make one of those shopping trips and save the money for the holidays. I hope this helps some.

It seems NBA and NFL championships aren’t only for the boys! The Heat and OK are going head-to-head in the finals and Herstar released these ‘fashion’ pumps in efforts to capitalize on the woman that wants to go the extra mile for her man or dare I say favorite team (because most believe women don’t enjoy sports). Ehh not sure about them… What do you think? If I HAD to buy a pair I’d rock the Heat pumps with jeans and a white tee – there’s so much already going on with them.

WINTER WHITES ARE SPRING/SUMMER ROMANTICS

So this past weekend’s weather all three days of 70-80 degree weather, got me going!!! FINALLY we’re being blessed with the warmth and glow of the sun. I could breathe, I could perspire, I could absorb the suns rays (with a bit of sunblock of course) all the way deep down into the marrow of my bones, deep down into the bottom of my soul my heart cried out, elated that the dreariness of winter had finally succumbed to Spring and that Summer!, was on her way.

Of course, this good fortune meant a dose of …retail therapy. The beautiful weather set me in the mood for romantic dresses with a bit of edge. You know some raw edges, crochet, lace a bit of ribbon, bibs and bobs…a bit of Downtown Abbey meets Great Gatsby meets Rock-n-Roll. And boy was I in “pigs heaven” as my mom likes to say, walking into Zara, H & M, Urban Outfitters, Joe Fresh, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor. So many beauties to choose from, I was in overload!!! It seems some prayers have been answered. Fashion-forward dresses are here for the renting! Similar to Rent the Runway, brides and wedding goer’s can rent dresses from designers such as Oscar De La Renta Rodarte, Marchesa and Monique Lhillier on the “cheap” from Nearly Newlywed. Brides-to-be can rent, try and even buy their dress and newly weds can sell their gently worn hard-to-find dresses for a profit. Sounds like a great wedding gift to me!

HAUTENESS* NAIL GAMES

Yeah the weekend is here and it’s time to get our grooming maintenance on!! As you all know, I have a fetish for nail art (see here and here). I am not scared of a bit of creativity, people! But this nail design below… this has me thinking! It’s genius, it’s intense, it’s hot!!

So what do you think? Is it a trend that will take? I mean, I could trim just the tips but the entire rim of the nail?!!! Hmm, I will have to talk to my local artist to see if her skills are up to the task If she does it, I’ll definitely post it. Now if you take this as a challenge to be the first of either of us, do send me a pic. I’ll gladly post it here!
