Hey guys, I’m so excited to announce that I am the newest ambassador for the Mirror Salon at Carol’s Daughter in Harlem.  As we all know, Curlfest is the moment of all moments for the kinky, curly and coily diaspora.  The place to see, learn and be seen but also a great place to meet amazing and interesting women and be introduced to new entrepreneurial businesses.

With all that said, you know you can’t half step with your look so I made sure to make my appointment with stylist Bukky at the  Mirror Salon.  Going in I had my mind set on using clip-in’s to achieve my “life-long” dream of a protective style that wasn’t a sew-in.   For my consultation, Bukky patiently listened to my laundry list of my do’s and don’t and why I won’ts, but gently told me that even with clip-in’s you can sometimes run the chance of tugging at your roots weakening them when keeping them in for prolonged periods of time (I wanted to go atleast 2 weeks at a time with some leave out). Also the hair that I purchased wouldn’t weather well for those 2 weeks. A little deflated we brainstormed on alternate styles that I could rock and avoid having to touch up for at least a week.

BAM! Look at me now…

Another rod set for the GOD’s but different in so many ways. For this rod set, Bukky worked my hair into curly coils vs the spirals curl that you’ve seen me with before.

The appointment started out with a shampoo and conditioning with the Tui Collection which infuses moisture for long-lasting color. The collection stops fading, damage, dryness and curl pattern loss – all things that I need considering I like to change my hair color so often. From there I received my first steam treatment that opens the hair follicles and allows for deep penetration of the deep Tui conditioner. Rinsed and ready to go Bukky started the process of sectioning and applying the flexi rods working with orange in the back, blue in the middle and red at the crown to give my curls a bit of size diversity.

The products used in this process were Carol’s Daughter Marula Leave-In and Milk Styling Foam. A bit different from most folks, my hair really loves the Marula leave-in more than the Milk leave-in so luckily you can cocktail any of their products to find what’s best for you since they all compliment one another.

I digress…after the application of 50 or so rods I was ready to go and sit under the dryer. An hour and half later, I emerged like a phoenix with perfectly bouncy curls.

Now 4 days later my hair is still super cute and pretty defined. At night I wear a bonnet to maintain the style and it’s been a great success considering I’ve also worked out during this time.
