SCENE & BE SEEN* IN THE DADE – DAY 3 & 4

April 29, 2011 in SCENE & BE SEEN

Day 3 in the Dade – I wasn’t too sure what to wear as it was my first day on the job after months of prep.  I didn’t get a chance to capture my business attire but here’s what I wore while out and about running errands.

My Steez: Hugging Kisses jumpsuit, Vera Wang Lavender ballet flats
Day 3 - Dade

Day 4 in the Dade – I had a breakfast, networking break, lunch, cocktails and dinner to assist with.  I think I did a good job of balancing the my two outfits to make sure I was dressed appropriately.

SCENE & BE SEEN* IN THE DADE – DAY 2

Day 2 in the Dade proved to be really productive.  I was able to steal away time to sit pool side and tan for a bit before diving into work.

PROM

April 28, 2011 in LIFE

Prom season is upon us.  I can somewhat remember the prom’s that I attended.  My high school didn’t have a prom so I went to my friends prom’s.  My best friend at the time had her own school prom so instead of wasting money, I simply borrowed her dress.  Here’s one prom picture.  I can’t find other.  I’ve since had a few formal dresses that I’ve  donated but this year I plan on donating to donatemydress.org.  Everyone should have the opportunity to dress to the nines at least once.

SCENE & BE SEEN* IN THE DADE – DAY 1

April 27, 2011 in SCENE & BE SEEN

After knocking out a days worth of work along with one of the worst travel experiences of my entire life (THANKS DELTA AIRLINES) I caught up with one of my very good friends.

You know your friendship is strong when distance and time stands still no matter life’s curveballs.

NOW YOU KNOW* VINTAGE TREASURES

April 27, 2011 in HAUTENESS, NOW YOU KNOW

Some time ago, I read a piece entitled “What is it about vintage?” in Papercut magazine.  Vicky Anson, wrote “Modern fashion is always inspired by the past, which we give a nod to as we forge ahead, creating the future.  The elements from the past that we do not wish to leave behind identify themselves as holding a value for us…”

I would say the height of my vintage finds was my birthday dress.  Most wouldn’t believe that my flapper-esque dress only cost me $14.99 with it’s hand beading.  Straight from the racks of the Salvation Army, this amazing dress pictured below once had a longer hem and longer sleeves.

The days leading up to my birthday had me knots over what to wear.  I agonized over whether to spend money on yet ANOTHER dress that I would only wear once.  During my search I fell in love with an Alexander Wang dress (WAY OUTSIDE THE BUDGET) and reached out to friends to talk me off the ledge from committing financial suicide.

In the end as you can see, I stuck with what I already had and only had to tweak it slightly.  This vintage dress gave me LIFE!  Like the person who wore it before I’m sure the dress turned heads for her.  Today I’m certain you can find a sequin dress in almost every store but the only difference is the work, time and dedication that went into its creation.

Since the present is only “inspired” by the past, we are surely in for half-assed produced clothing….and you wonder why vintage is in such high demand.

Quality is key.

SCENE & BE SEEN* BENVENUTO A MIAMI

April 26, 2011 in SCENE & BE SEEN

This week I’m away in Miami for work.  New York’s weather has me all messed up in the game with its finicky weather.  Just this past Sunday it was 80 degrees but dropped significantly at night.  As a result I still haven’t removed my summer clothing from storage and I was screwed when it came to packing.  Hopefully what I packed as sufficient and can withstand the Florida heat.  I’ll keep you posted.

FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT

April 25, 2011 in LIFE

There are several differences between men and women that go way beyond the physical.  Two things I can admittedly say I envy is how men are able to easily detach emotions from most situations and more importantly the fact that because men can separate those emotions, they can physically fight with one another and be cool an hour later.

Oh how perfect that would be to just square up and fight it out so that the issue didn’t drag on.  The tomboy in me would LIVE for that moment.  I’ve had what I’ll call “emotional battles” with female friends that have dragged on and on and in retrospect could have been squashed with a quick one-two punch and then a hug (if a hug is necessary).

Am I the only woman who feels this way of do you think I have some deep-seated aggression?  In either case I’m going to sign up for a kickboxing and Muay Thai at the end of May to remain active.

Preparation is key!  Ya just never know.
