SUIT UP* WINTER BRIGHTS

November 30, 2010 in SUIT UP

Guys the winter doesn’t always spell grey and black it also a great time to throw in your favorite colors.  A classic white shirt can always be spruced up with a shot of color in a tie a pocket square.  Deep purples or a contrasting striped tie worn with a plaid shirt can do the trick in showing effortless style.

SCENE & BE SEEN* H&M x LANVIN

November 23, 2010 in SCENE & BE SEEN

Okay so Lanvin has official hit H&M stores.  This past weekend droves of fashion loves hit H&M stores across New York City to purchase the collaborative line that MP & I tipped you off to few weeks ago.  Here’s what went down at one H&M.

Location – 86th Street and Lexington.

Customers lined up and were given bracelets with their appointed time to shop … EXACTLY 15 minutes and barricades keep them contained like wild beasts.

Only in New York I tell you…

For a piece of the good life.

SCEEN & BE SCENE* I AM…WORLD TOUR

November 22, 2010 in SCENE & BE SEEN

The Elle files were in the building for the “I AM…World Tour” screening at the SVA on Sunday evening.  Stans lined up for the chance to be some of the first to see the dvd, hear a few words from Beyoncé and check out some celeb friends who were there to show support.  Tyson Beckford, J Hud, Amel Larreiux, Mary J and A Keys quenched the thirst of B’s fans.

This is Beyoncé’s first directorial debut.

Throughout the film fans sang along, laughed and got misty eyed.

An overall great reflective piece by Mrs. Carter.

During her brief “Thank You” speech.

Fans did break out their camera’s and lighters for “Halo”.

JUST DANDY* “IT’S A MAN’S WORLD”

November 22, 2010 in SUIT UP

Dan•dy noun

1.  a man who gives attention to personal appearance

Show me a man who can dress and takes his time to put himself together and I’ll show you a man who’s focused. I’m not talking about a man who takes longer in the bathroom than his woman but a man who knows that each occasion requires some effort and attention to detail.  Men that take a moment to coordinate their look are always sharp and are undeniably suave.

No longer are the days where baggy pants, excessive “bling” and do-rags reign supreme.  Today is the day of the effortless man who knows the importance of looking put together.  Effortlessly styled men such are Andre 3000, Patrick Dempsey, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, “No Country for Old Men” Javier Bardem, new-comer and GQ’s current cover model Drake, CSI’s Adam Rodriguez (MP’s sex pot) my current fav Channing Tatum (yes lawd) give off this aura of smooth. I know that if I bumped into any of these men I would instantly hear James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s World” playing in the background like sweet elevator music.

Effortlessly styled men pair suits with sneakers and bow ties with hoodies and don’t button up their dress shirts all the way. Boys and men need to take note that the way you put yourself together speaks volumes to not only women but the world.  It’s often your style that sometimes speaks before you get a chance to.

SCENE & BE SEEN* Artisan Series sponsored by Bombay Sapphire

November 19, 2010 in SCENE & BE SEEN

On Wednesday night, the ELLE files were in the building at the Bombay Sapphire’s Artisan Series in Chelsea.  Various artists competed to have their works of art (in any form) displayed at Art Basel in Miami (http://www.artbaselmiamibeach.com/) as well as to have their own art exhibit at the Rush Arts Gallery (http://www.rushartsgallery.org/) owned and operated by Russell and Danny Simmons in New York City.

The event was held in a small gallery in Chelsea and although the stifling heat and lack of air conditioning had my new growth standing on edge, it was nice to see creative minds at work.  Here are some of the great pieces that caught our eye.

You can see the heat in this picture!

STYLE* MAXI DRESS FLOW

November 18, 2010 in STYLE

The colder it gets I find it harder and harder to express my style.  I don’t want to get lost in the same pants, heels and coat combo.  It’s time to take it up a notch.  Lets see what I can do with a maxi skirt and long dress.  The key is to dress it down so that it doesn’t look like you’re getting ready for prom. I believe it’s possible to just kick it with friends or go to work in a maxi.

Here’s my trial outfit from yesterday.

My co-worker and I were having fun trying to show how I pulled off my maxi dress. He’s determined to teach me how to model.

Too cute!

The photo on the left is the result of our “shoot”. The photo on the right is the good ol’ bathroom shoot that I took.
